The City of Monona will be the destination of bargin hunters on Friday and Saturday, May 16 & 17. Residents, clubs, churches and organizations will sell treasures, antiques, furniture, houshold goods, crafts and baked goods at the tenth annual City Wide Garage Sale. Come early for the best bargains! Maps and sale listings will be published in the Herald-Independent newspaper and available from local merchantes starting on May 14, 2008. Everyone enjoys the thrill and pageantry of a parade! Join the Celebration of 53 years for Wisconsin's largest and longest running Memorial Day Parades will consist of more than 100 units. For everone's enjoyment there will be military color guards, clowns, marching bands, live animals, fire trucks, scouts, floats, antique autos, local elected officials, dance groups and much more.

The 1.5 mile parade route will start just past Monona Grove High School and travel south on Monona Drive disbaning at Owen Road.

After the parade brief Memorial Ceremonies will be held at Blooming Grove, Roselawn Cemeteries and Highland Memory Gardens. To honor those who have and are serving our country.

Just bring your proof of address to the game. Watch Mayor Kahl throw out the first pitch. A Monona Grove Student will sing the National Anthem. Monona resident Josh Groves, UW-Milwaukee standout, will be playing for the Mallards this summer. Learn more about Monona and area events as they read special announcements between innings. A summer night at the ballgame, sounds like the place to be.

Monona Magic - Past and Present, features tours of lakeside homes, all with Capitol views on Tonyawatha Trail, as well as the historic Dean House on Monona Drive. Tickets are $16 in advance; $18 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased by check or cash at Attic Angel Association, 640 Junction Road, Madison; Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Road and the Attic Angel Sale on June 19, high Point Church or by credit card at www.atticangel.org after May 1. Proceeds benefit two non-profits: The new Respite Rescue program at Independent Living, Inc., to offer time-off services to stressed, volunteer caregivers of low income family members and the Resident Aid Fund at Attic Angel Place which provides financial aid to residents of Attic Angel Community who have outlived their financial resources. Restaurant partner Cloud 9 Grille, corner of Cottage GRove Road and Juniper Drive, Madison, will donate 15% of all lunch and dinner food and beverage sales on June 23 to Attic Angel Association when attendees show their House and Garden Tour Ticket. The second level, with Lake Monona and Capitol view, is reserved for tour attendees from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with dining selections from the lunch and dinner menues. Buses will transport lunch visitors from the house tour site to Cloud 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Attic Angel is a 118-year-old organization of more than 550 volunteers women dedicated to serving the community. The Attic Sale and House and Garden Tour are the association's signature annual events, raising more than $85,000 annually.

A fun-filled festival awaits you in one of Wisconsin's most beautiful community parks. Winnequah Park is located off the shores of Lake Monona and just minutes away from the state capitol.

This year's festival is July 3 - 4. The carnival midway opens July 2 and runs throughout the festival. July 4th is packed with fun family activities. The firecraker hunt, kiddie parade, optimist kidway, water fights, and live performances from various groups, fill the schedule. Be sure to check out the festival art fair with over 60 artists displaying their talents.

Taste of Monona will once again serve up local restaurant specialties during the day. Stop by the Monona Chamber of Commerce Ice Cream Stand for a delicious cone. All proceeds from ice cream sales go toward scholarships. Festivities will be capped off with an incredible aerial fireworks display at dusk on July 4th.

Monona Grove Business Men's Chili Cook-off

The aroma of bubbling pots of spicy homemade chili will fill the air during the MGBMA Annual Chili Cook-off. More than 30 chefs will be vying for the top awards and cash prizes, making this one of the biggest in the state. Competition is open to all, but participants must register prior to September 14, 2008. Contact Jeff Machut at the AmericInn Lodge & Suites. Chili day is a fun day for the chefs, their helpers and general public. The chefs take their chili seriously and no two chilis are the same...some are just a little hotter than others. Many participants set up signs, displays and wear crazy costumes. Samples from the chefs may be purchased for 50 cents each. Watch for the Classic Car Show this year!
